Bryan Soccer Head Coach

Drew Courtney | Head Coach

Drew Courtney begins his third season as the Head Coach of the Bryan College Men's Soccer Program.

Courtney is returning as the AAC Coach of the Year. He led the 2015 team to a conference championship going undefeated in conference play in his second season.

Courtney is also the Head Coach for the Chattanooga Football Club Women's team, which compete in the Women's Premier Soccer League during the summer months.

Coach Courtney joined the Lions after spending the previous 3 seasons at Covenant College where he served as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Bryan College Athletic Director, Taylor Hasty, had this to say about the hire: “I am excited about the future of our Men’s Soccer Program under Coach Courtney!  He will be a great fit for us here at Bryan and do a great job not only as a soccer coach but also as the mentor for the young men in our program.  The soccer program here at Bryan has historically been very strong under the leadership of two great coaches and I am excited to watch it continue under the leadership of Drew Courtney.”

A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Courtney graduated from Chattanooga Christian School in 2004 before attending NCAA Division II Lander University in South Carolina to play soccer.  A four-year starting mid-fielder for the Bearcats, Courtney helped lead the team to three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament, including appearances in the elite eight and sweet sixteen.

Following his graduation from Lander with a bachelor’s degree, Courtney received the opportunity to play out west for the Southern California Seahorses of the Premier Development League (PDL).  Courtney played one season there before moving back east for stints with the Mississippi Brilla of the PDL and the Chattanooga Football Club of the National Premier Soccer League.  He competed with the CFC through the summer of 2011 before retiring as a professional player.

Courtney began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Belhaven University (Jackson, Mississippi), in the fall of 2009.  The Blazers went 26-6-5 in Courtney’s two seasons there and earned a trip to the NAIA national tournament in 2010.

Following his time with Belhaven, Courtney became the top assistant at Covenant College in 2011 where he served for three seasons.  During his time at Covenant, Courtney helped oversee the program’s transition into full NCAA III competition and developed a competitive Junior Varsity program.

Courtney also coached the Mississippi Brilla for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Brilla are members of the Premier Development League. Over 450 players in MLS or USL first played in the PDL, including players from Courtney's teams.

Courtney had this to say about his transition just up Highway 27 to Bryan: "I am thankful to Taylor and the Administration for their trust in me to lead the men's soccer program. Coach Johnson and Coach Zensen have set a high standard both on the field and off of it. I am honored to follow such great men, and lead a program with such great tradition."

Courtney resides in Chattanooga, TN with his wife, Cassie and daughter, Collins.
